In a blink, Kai has finished 1 term of K1. To round up the term, Kai just went for an excursion at the Zoo with his friends on Friday. It is also the School's parent-child bonding day and the children has at least 1 parent with them. Kai and mommy had a good walk around the Zoo. We have been to the Zoo many times as a family. This is the 1st time Kai has mommy's absolute 100% accompany and attention in the Zoo. :D
Showing his ice-cream treat!
His favourite activity whenever we go to the Zoo.
Kai brought back a folder of completed work home. Lots of coverage for English and Math. Kai is at the blending stage and has learnt the consonants etc. He knows the beginning sounds of "CL, PL, SL,...." etc. A lot of handwriting practice and exercises. I must say it is a lot of writing for Kai at 4years 3 months now. What to do... our year-end baby. Nevertheless, Kai will do his best! Back at home, mommy is still working hard in reading sight books with Kai. Kai is progressing steadily in his own pace. He has definitely improved compared to months ago. We hope that Kai will be able to read simple books independently in 6 months time. hehehee... Very encouragingly, Kai has shown much more interest in story books now too!
In numeracy, Kai is able to count from 1 to 100. He is able to do addition confidently and is brushing up his speed in subtraction too. He is able to write from 1 to 50 very well and able to count and write backward from 20 to 1 too. He is able to recognise number words from 1 to 20. He is able to arrange number from biggest to smallest and vice versa, complete missing number, identify even and odd number. Toward end of the term, teacher introduced time reading and now Kai is able to read time like 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock. He is also able to draw the short and long hands correctly for a given time. And you can see, Kai is definitely more apt in numbers compared to language! hahaha...
Coming to mother tougue. Thank goodness that Kai is much more willing to converse in mandarin now! A very encouraging sign! Back at home, ah ma will only speak to him in mandarin and he is so used to it that he will automatically switch to channel 8 language when talking to ah ma. He has been singing so many chinese songs and rhythms at home too! He particularly likes all those Chinese New Year songs that he is still humming them now. Kai has also learnt many words at his weekly TH class. Good job Kai!
Continue to work hard and enjoy learning as best as you can, dear son!
Before that, let's enjoy our holiday!
